Ohioans are eagerly anticipating summer, but experts say it's too early to predict whether it will be an average summer or a scorcher. The official start of summer is June 21, but the Farmers' Almanac considers June 1 as the meteorological start of summer. The almanac predicts a warm and humid summer for Ohio, with temperatures often exceeding 90 degrees and higher-than-usual precipitation. However, according to Aaron Wilson, State Climatologist of Ohio and assistant professor - Ag Weather and Climate Field Specialist, Department of Extension - CFAES at The Ohio State University, it's too early to say, but the latest projections are calling for an average or slightly above-average temperature summer with above-average rainfall. The U.S. is currently exiting a period of La Niña and will be entering a weather pattern called El Niño, which can cause northern parts of the country to experience warmer and dryer weather.
